Great Ready for Winter and Weatherize Your Home
Free Home Weatherization Raffle Offered by Idaho Conservation League
Winter weather is around the corner. Is your home ready? Drafty homes waste heat and cost money: heating and cooling your house adds up to about 50 percent of your home energy use. Save energy and money by participating in a Weatherization House Party and Raffle, sponsored by the Idaho Conservation League. The event includes a free raffle for a basic home weatherization package or an energy assessment from Northern Lights, Inc.
Learn about online energy audits, rebates and how easy it is to weatherize your home at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Sandpoint Library. The “primer” will be followed by a demonstration of those techniques at the home of the winner of the basic home weatherization package.
The winner will get a free blower door test from Energy Wise Consulting, which depressurizes the home to identify air leaks. ICL’s volunteer team will then use basic weatherization materials to tackle the drafts, and make other simple energy-saving improvements, too.
While the winning package does not include home insulation, now’s a great time to add insulation to your home. Generous federal and state tax incentives, plus Avista cash rebates, add up to make insulating your home very affordable this fall. A full list of energy and cash-saving incentives for homeowners is at the Idaho Conservation League’s website, www.idahoconservation.org.
The winner of the Northern Lights, Inc., home energy assessment must be a Northern Lights cooperative member and use electric heat as their primary heat source. More information at http://nli.coop.
Sign up for the free raffle by Oct. 17 at www.idahoconservation.org, or call 208.265.9565. All participants in the raffle will receive a coupon for discounts on home weatherization products at Merwins True Value Hardware. Additional sponsors include Avista, Northern Lights, Inc., and Energy Wise Consulting.
