2011 Invitation to Teach

You are invited to teach

This is an invitation for you or your group or organization to join the 2011 session of the Transition Folk School. This is your school and it is committed to expanding community access to classes that teach “the arts and crafts of sustainable living”. The vision is very broad (see below) and can include almost any class that expands knowledge, develops new skills, or creates an opportunity to build community

New Teachers: We are actively seeking experienced and qualified teachers in all areas. STI’s focus this year is on FOOD so if you have skills, we really encourage you to offer classes in permaculture design, backyard gardening, cooking, vermiculture, foraging, native plants, composting, green building e.g, storage buildings, green houses, etc.

New Partnerships: We are looking for partners to support the mission. If your group or organization offers classes that fit with our mission, or have classroom space available, please contact us and we will list you as a partner and link to your site. Current partners include City of Sandpoint, LPO School District, Twin Eagles Wilderness School, University of Idaho Extension and Hope Marketplace, Inquire Within Bookstore.

What’s New:

STI has revised our website and will publish monthly class updates. We will create and post flyers to promote your classes.

o STI Deadline for Session One: Spring April/May/June Flyer: March 31st.

o STI Deadline for Session Two Summer July/August/September Flyer : June 1st.

We have created a partnership with Sandpoint City Parks and Recreation and you can now offer your course through the City and benefit from the wide reaching distribution of their catalog. If you offer the course through the City you are able to use the Community Hall and they manage all registration and insurance issues. The City Parks application can be downloaded on STI website.

o City Parks and Recreation Deadline: March 21st.

A Reminder of our Vision and Mission:

Vision: The Transition Folk School teaches traditional arts and crafts in an intergenerational, student centered environment. The school is designed to inspire the hearts, hands and mind of individuals, enrich lives and create a sustainable, resilient, and vibrant community.

Mission: The Transition Folk School is governed by five basic tenets:

1. Preserve the knowledge, skills, and wisdom of the past to enrich our community.

2. Encourage students to recognize and develop their creativity, talents and appreciation of art and its role in everyday life.

3. Promote life-long learning in an intergenerational, non-competitive setting.

4. Provide creative and meaningful learning opportunities for individuals, families, and groups.

5. Develop an appreciation of cultural and individual differences that support personal and community growth.

We hope you will join us and help build a more sustainable and resilient community.

Applications are available on this site.  Submission instructions are included.

Thank you for your consideration.
